First day of classes...
Aug. 31st, 2009 05:49 pmFirst day of class went pretty well. I like my teachers so far, they all seem decent and personable. Math made me suddenly realize how much I've really forgotten, but I'm determined to make it CLICK this time, so I'm really glad we're sort of starting from the ground up. There's a few other students in my Math class who are about on the same level as I am and some below.
My Writing teacher is pretty no nonsense with some things (attendance and such), which is refreshing. She also reminds me of Ms. Bundy from high school, and I loved her as a teacher. We also have a few online classes, so that's kinda cool. There's a lot of online assignments like forum-style discussions and the like. I think the hardest issue I'll have is the actual ESSAYS themselves, not so much soaking in the material. But it should be a challenge and I like challenges!
I have Psychology FIRST THING in the morning. I don't know if this is good or bad but it seems like it's going to be a pretty easy class either way. Lots of stuff I already have a pretty good grasp on.
TJ dropped himself down to my math class because Algebra was just a bit TOO much. He scored well on Pre-Algebra on the COMPASS assesment, but I think it was more of a 'passing grade' sort of score (like, he knew some of it, just enough to slip by), but not enough to really understand what everything was. Now, of course, In Math I, everything is easy to him. So it's probably one of those things where he'll have to trudge through the first half and then probably be in the right place with Math II (he was in III and IV originally, which are the Algebra courses).
The biggest pain is that now TJ's classes are all in the afternoon and I have mostly morning classes (except for my Math which is at 2:15PM). So, while we thought we'd just be on campus together all day, I'll have to rile him up in the morning. Or, get one of the bikes fixed so I can ride to campus on my own, which will be fine until it starts snowing.
Overall though, it's pretty nice. I've been comfortable in my classes and with my teachers. I was surprised to see so many people because, well, I haven't been on the Trumbull Campus during school time since my mom used to take me when she was going to college here. So I guess I just never realized how many folks actually attend this campus.
It's very weird because when I'm here I sort of forget I'm in Warren. Because KSU always equals Kent to me. But, hopefully soon! I'm also thinking about taking maybe five or six classes next semester. I have a lot of extra time that I feel I could be using for something useful. But it's only the first day and this free time will probably be in high demand as assignments are given out and I need to do my work and still have time to fag it up online and work on commissions. I think it's really because I don't have a job right now, so I feel like I should be doing something else but...I'm not.
Tomorrow I have Drawing I. I wish the syllabus was up online so I could pick up materials, but it's not. So I'll have to wait to see what I already own and what I'll need to buy.
Other than that, not a whole lot happening. I got my socks from Sock Dreams today! I bought myself Purple Knees (purple + green cause they were cheap!) and Neapolitan Stripes (brown + pink + cream because YUM). I also bought TJ Sock It To Me Moustaches (because FFFFFFFFFFFF) and Super Hero Socks (black + green). So now I shall have delicious cute warm socks for the winter season. ❤ ❤ ❤
Now I'm just bumming around and waiting for TJ to get out of class. He was going to take me home, but didn't have enough time after we ran to get some food. I could walk, yeah, but it's warmer than I realized (but not TOO warm) and I can just dick around on the computers for an hour or two. I think he's out at 6:45PM, so it's not too bad. I can waste that much time.
When I get home I need to clean some. Rat cages, for sure. And re-organized my desk area.
OH.
I have a kitchen spider. I don't believe I mentioned it here, but I know I did on my Twitter.
There's what I believe to be a St. Andrew's Cross spider (I know the big, bright females as 'banana spiders' because of the yellow) living above my kitchen sink. It's gotta be a male, because he's very small and I've seen the females in webs before. They're amazingly huge and don't bother with anything. When I lived on Hatteras Island we had one near the house in whose whole web survived the hurricane.
Anyhow, he lives above my kitchen sink and in the unused vent fan above the unused stove. His web isn't attatched to anything I actually use (it goes from the window to the vent) and he pretty much stays up near the ceiling. I haven't tossed him out yet because I'm hoping he'll get rid of some of the flies.
But, man, we need to come to a compromise. Spider, I will let you live your little spidery life in the house for a bit if you quit fuckin' trolling me by dangling down from the vent (never far enough for me to run in to) or hiding on the window curtians.
FFFFFFFFF
But, yeah. There's that.
