Almost another month has passed, which it really doesn't seem like.

Work has finally leveled out. Rush is over at the bookstore, so I'm not there anymore. Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, I'm at the VCD Resource Room. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Sunday, I'm in the Library. I may end up taking the three hours on Friday and shoving them in with Tuesday and Thursday. I'd be working until 11PM (I work until 9:30PM now), but then I'd have another day off. The downside is that the buses don't run home that late (heck, I can't catch Suburban to my house after 9:16PM anyhow!). But the Downtowner runs that late on Thursdays, so worst case scenario is I take a campus bus around to McGilvery and walk the few blocks from there.

Also, as you can see, I did get the library job! It's pretty easy, to be honest. Lots of shelving books and organizing stuff. The people I work with seem to be pretty cool and most of my time is spent my by lonesome, putting books away, and listening to music. It's quite nice, actually.

The VCD job is pretty easy, too. Now that I've finally conquered the Xerox printer. It'd been my nemesis for a few days there because it wasn't pulling the right size paper from the right tray and being a huge pain in the ass. Since then, I've figured out how to change the paper feed tray, so that's good. Now I don't look like a fool (as much) anymore.

Our money's a little tighter than we were hoping. We had to get the car fixed - something with the wheel which I can't remember right now for the life of me - and that put us out about $600. I'm thankful we had the money to get it fixed, but at the same time, that's more than a month of rent. Although, I ended up having a $600 paycheck, so that made up for it, I suppose.

Classes seem like they're going to be pretty light this semester. The Intro to Computer Systems class I picked up for fluff and an easy grade is almost ridiculously easy. Stuff like learning how to screencaps, learning how to use Google Docs and simple shit like that. It's stupid easy, but it'll be a nice A grade.

I ended up acquiring the College Writing II class I wanted originally. The one I had the first week and a half was reading stuff I wasn't all that interested in (Generation Me, The Narcissism Epidemic) after doing social justice bullshit in my Writing I class. The class I originally wanted, and the one I'm in now, is reading stuff like The Haunting of Hill House, The Woman in Black, and Little Stranger, and it's focusing on stuff like hauntings and haunted houses. I'm still playing a bit of catc-up with the first two weeks worth of work, but the instructor said that's okay and to focus on my first essay assignment first.

Speaking of first essay assignment. We have to write summaries for articles, which is probably the weirdest assignment I've had so far? It's giving me a lot of weird anxiety because it's something I've never had to do before and I'm not sure if I'm even thinking of the correct way to do it or what. I guess I'll just take a shot and hope I'm doing it correctly as I go. But our rough drafts are due Tuesday, so that should help focus me in the right direction.

I got my hair cut last week. Like, a legitimate cut. I actually went to the salon and got it done. They look A LOT nicer than when I tried to do them myself. The girl gave me a razor cut around the sides and back, so it's layered and a lot more of the pink shows out. It's definitely been weird to get used to, but I do like it! Plus, when my bangs grow out, I can do the side-swept ones.

Aaand, here's some Instagram spam!

Squeeji, Elliott, and I (Tony was sick) went to the Art Fair last weekend and met up with a local furry, so I took a bunch of pics.

Oh! I posted about it on Facebook, but I guess not here. I got a Nexus 7!

My reasons for this were multiple. I'd been eyeing the Kindle Fire's for awhile and other tablets and I had the fleeting thought of maybe getting one in the future when some dropped in price. I was in Gamestop mentioning this and the guy working mentioned the Nexus 7 and I ended up going home to do some research. After a lot of frowing at overseas knockoffs and really cheapy-but-shady tablets, I started seriously considering getting one new and one that's actually going to be reliable and that I won't have to put a bunch of work into to get it to work the way I want it to.

I'm also going to be on campus a lot over the winter. If I want to do homework (or anything involving a computer), I'd have to either lug my laptop along or use the campus computers. Having to pack up my laptop + charger + mouse and anything else I might need for the day is just a huge pain in the ass. Not to mention carrying that back and forth from home and campus, as well as between workplaces and such. A tablet would be infinitely lighter and I could still do a good portion of my classwork on it. I could also forgo buying textbooks and such, as I'd have an ereader, as well.

I almost bought one from the bookstore, but they were sold out. So I ended up getting it from Gamestop, so Tony could get points on his rewards card.

But I really love it! It's doing exactly the job I bought it for - I take it to work and do my homework on it when I work at VCD - plus I can draw on it (though I'm not very good and it's not as responsive as I would like) and everything. I wish it had a 3G plan, but it picks up wifi a lot better than my phone does and there's very few places anymore that don't have a wifi connection I can jump on.

Now, a bunch of dumb other things.

tumblr character roster

So I’d made this a few weeks ago and meant to share it and all, but I never got around to it. Basically, I wanted an easy way to go ‘hey, these are my dumb roleplay blogs on tumblr’ without having to link my big (and yet unfinished) page of characters I have overall.

It’s not really anything special, just tells what series the character’s from or set in, if they’re a canon or an original, and of course a picture. All the ask boxes are open on the individual blogs and I love asks!! :D

I've really been slacking in the adminning my boards front. But work/school does come first and until those balance, I don't even have the motivation to write for fun. It'll come back around, it always does, but for now, I'm not stressing over it too much.

Gotta make up the rest of November’s rent (about another $300), so I’m taking an indefinite number of ACEO commissions. Each one you buy comes with a free 4x6 print (the ones down at the bottom of the flyer are what’s to choose from).

Pencils/Sketches are $10, Inkwork is $13, and Traditional coloring (markers and/or colored pencils) are $15. I draw mainly anthro/furry, but I can also draw humans and other creatures!

Leave a comment if interested, feel free to spread this around!

Actual post-Anthrocon update!

Anthrocon was really, really enjoyable this year. There wasn't any real drama, our hotel room was fabulous, and we had a really good time despite not actually DOING a lot. Really. Our sleep schedules had changed, a week or two before the con we had been night owls. By the time the con rolled around, we were waking up at 5AM and 6AM and crashing around 10PM or 11PM. It doesn't make for great con socializing, but it makes for great sleep and being pretty well rested. So I can't REALLY complain, but it meant I didn't get to hang out in the Zoo a lot in the evenings. Ah well.

We got in Thursday and got our room. Squeeji and Elliot were still on the other side of Ohio almost, so we went over and stood in line to get our registration before going to mill about and acquire food, as well as look for people who we knew. Tony tracked down [livejournal.com profile] llyander, who he knows from ~online~, and we talked for awhile about Doctor Who and Transformers and gossip-y bullshit before Squeeji called for help to find the hotel. I went and got them all settled in before we walked back up to the convention center to get them registered. The rest of the day was spent bullshitting and finding people, as well as acquiring foodstuff.

Friday, Squeeji and I got up to register for Artist's Alley. Tony and Elliot came along, since they were awake and we bullshit with other artists while waiting. I didn't make much money in the Alley because I wasn't doing commissions, but I sold a couple things. At least those are out of my hair. When I get some time, I'll post up everything I have for sale that's leftover. It'll all go for really cheap, I just don't want it anymore.

I updated most of Saturday in my last post, so I can skip that~

BUT WE HUNG OUT WITH PEOPLE AND SHIT. Silver, Rax, Llyander, Squeeji, Elliot, Vera, Rude, Spiffy, Jevin, Fel, ectera, ectera. I even ran into Matt briefly, which was like a blast from the past.

Two commissons from Final Flight. Samil and Maggie, and Uno. And an ATC from Fel because I gave him a bunch of my blank ones~ I have to get a frame for Samil and Maggie, though I bought a nice red/black mat to put it in. I got an oval cut mat for Uno, but it's too small. Augh! I'll bave to get a new one and a frame for him, as well.

I FINALLY ACQUIRED THE HEIRESS. I mean, it's a print, but I've been wanting it since Arphalia sold the original at AC in 09 (I believe). It reminds me a lot of Poe~ Now I just need to find space on my wall to hang it... I had bid on two other pieces in the art show, RedCoatCat's A Kiss Goodbye (I KNEW I should've bid $40 on it and I didn't make it back to defend my bid. Sadness.) and a cool tasmanian devil painting, but I don't remember the artist. It was white on red and on canvas.

We also bought a bunch of trinkets, because I love trinkets. Stickers and cell phone charms and I got the last pair of Peaches & Cream metal charms. I was so stoked.

Sunday we checked out at noon (even though I was up at 9AM) and then hung around the convention center until Squeeji and Elliot departed. After that, I waited FOR. EV. ER. in the art show line to see if I even won anything (as you can see above - I did). Then we ran into friends and said goodbye (until next year) before deciding to get some food at the Fish Market before heading home.

Oh. My. God. Their blue crab bisque (or whatever it was) is amazing. Seriously. Amazing. Their bread is all soft and they had cajun lobster butter to go with it. We had a sunshine roll and an alaskan roll for sushi and ljgfhldfkg. Amazing. Totally worth the almost $50 bill.

Then we drove to my mom's in Johnston to pick up Melanie. Came home, drug all our crap inside and lazed about.

But it was a great convention. The Omni was amazing to stay in, though a bit of a hike to the convention center, especially when you might be doing it numerous times a day. Taking Tony's wheely bag was a lifesaver and I'll never go to a convention without it.

Next year, we're thinking about getting a dealer's table, though I have to figure out the PA tax licenses first. I don't mind the Alley, but I like being able to get up and leave at my leisure and being able to leave someone to sell in my stead. It's much more convienent.

The only downside to the weekend was that i got my laptop RAM right before and when I went to swap it out when we came home, I discovered it's the wrong kind. The little slot isn't in the correct place and I THOUGHT I got the right kind, but I guess I didn't. It'll fit in Tony's old laptop, but I've no desire to swap mine because, well, it's mine. So I'll be sending that back to Newegg so I can buy the RIGHT kind this time.

We get REAL INTERNET on Saturday. We finally bit the bullett and decided to stop leeching from the neighbors. I can download things at my leisure again! Huzzah!

❦ art card commissions ❦

To make a long and very stupid story (on my part) short: I'm trying to recoup some monies that I thought I had paid, but had not. Which means I am crazy broke at the moment and would like to try and get some funds back into my bank account. Which means I'm offering some commissions, but I don't want to kill myself with larger pieces (I'm also working on two other larger commissions anyhow), so I'm offering art cards.

sketch ❧ $10.00
inked ❧ $12.00
color ❧ $15.00

Sketches are like the ones above. Inked cards are, obviously, inkwork. Color cards are traditional color, much like these: 01, 02, 03 - marker and colored pencil, mainly. There's no worry about shipping, as long as you give me your address, I'll ship it at no cost to you. It's only the price of a stamp to stick it in the mail, after all.

My paypal is obliviousallyATyahooDOTcom.

I finished my VCD final projects today. I actually had them done last week, but I was procrastinating on writing a cover letter/objective for my resume because, well, I didn't want to. So I kept waiting on it and went to class today. Turns out, we're not getting our third project on account of class being cancelled on Monday. Awesome.

Instead of heading straight home from class, since I had nothing to do, I stuck around and helped a few people out with their projects. I wasn't struggling at all with the programs or anything like that, so I had no problem helping people out. Sticking around was a good idea because I got to bullshit about Macs vs. PCs and how the JMC department is now requiring all incoming freshman to have a Mac, which is such bullshit.

BUT! The instructor said he's helping to put together a new cirriculum for JMC (if I'm remembering this correctly, that is!) that's similar to what we'd learned in the VCD class this semester. Like learning the programs in the first class, doing projects in the next one, ectera. The reason I'm mentioning this? He asked if he could show my final projects to the director as examples of things that can be done with the programs we used and to 'get my name out there'. I said absolutely and then realized that I didn't want just the photo gallery with my art shown as an example. So I made up a second photo gallery with some of my photos from the drive to Seattle a few years ago.

I tried some different things with that one, too. A little more 'out of the box' with the title at the top and the thumbtacks on the images actually show up when you click on an image, so you know which one you're viewing. I wanted it to be the opposite way, with all the thumbtacks visible and when you clicked on an image, the tack on that specific image would disappear. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out why it wasn't doing it correctly, so I saved myself the hassle and just did it the other way.

SO. That's exciting.

In other news, I think once the rest of the money I'm waiting on falls into place, we should be good. I'll get a paycheck either next week or the week after that'll catch up on the rest of this month's rent and I might have a few bucks straggling at the beginning of January. BUT, hopefully my landlord will be happy and we'll have enough from our financial aid to pay up to May (when we get our money next).

If I'm really lucky, the bookstore will keep me on permanently. I don't expect it, but I know I should have a job through January at the very least. Plus, lots of things on campus come open with a new semester and they're opening the library 24/7, so maybe they'll be hiring for that, as well!

Some commission stuff I'm working on. Dreadfully exciting, I know.

I also changed my journal layout to something that reminds me of TRON. I always forget how much I love black + cyan.

I shit you not, this is two of my three projects for my final in my VCD class. The first one is an interactive resume and I need to write up an actual mock cover letter for it and not just use lorem ipsum text, unfortunately. The second is a small photo gallery. They were both done in InDesign, which is becoming my favorite program to lay out designs in. Which, I guess, makes some sense.

Initially he gave us simple templates for these, but I asked if we could fancy them up if we were so inclined. Instructor said go for it and, as you can see, I did. When I asked about something on my resume project (specifically, how to properly make a mailto link), my professor asked if that was my art and told me I should promote my stuff to pet stores and the like since I draw ~animal people~. Then he asked what my process was for doing my work digitally and such. When I asked if we could use other images for the photo gallery, he said to go ahead and use my art if I wanted.

We're going to be getting one more project before finals week and then these are due by the end of finals week (the 17th). As you can see, I've pretty much completed mine, but I'm going to wait for a bit to see if there's anything I want to tweak or add to it. But I think these will definately make my two bad exams pretty much nonexistent.

I mentioned this everywhere else, but not here yet: I HAS JOB. The bookstore e-mailed me this morning to ask if I'd be interested in working finals week to do buybacks. I said absolutely because, well, JOB. Plus, I do really like the bookstore. The only person there who puts me off a little is Stephanie, but I think she's just the type that's just >:| about new people in her work enviornment. She was never mean to me or anything, but she's just...curt, I guess. I can understand, though. So it's not a big deal.

But I popped in between classes and making flashcards for Art History to fill out my tax forms again. The manager asked if I'd be interested in helping over the break, to get ready for the spring semester and I said I'd love to. I also told him if he wanted to keep me on like they did for the beginning of the fall semester, I'd be more than happy.

So, there's that! There's going to be a lot of hours available for finals week, apparently. So hopefully I can get my rent worked out. I have about $100 towards what I owe now and I need about $160 more. Then, I have to scrounge up DECEMBER's rent, too. Hopefully, I can talk to my landlord and explain the situation and give him the rent money when I get paid this month. Then, in January, we'll both have our financial aid checks and can pay up a bit.

If I'm really lucky, the bookstore will keep me around. Even if it's just one or two days a week, that'd be nice and then I can pick up something else on campus.

Speaking of school (which is almost all I talk about), I got my schedule for spring. I have to take mostly online courses because I can't afford all twelve credit hours on the main campus right now ($225/credit at the regional campuses, $400/credit at the main campus). So I'm taking three online courses from the regional campuses and one course on main campus.

So my schedule looks like:
DRAWING I - 3.000 - 2:15 pm - 4:30 pm - Nicole Calderon - Jan 10, 2011-May 01, 2011
INTRODUCTION TO COMPUTER SYSTEMS - 3.00 - Web - Christina M. Burnworth - Jan 10, 2011-Mar 02, 2011
INTRODUCTION TO WEB SITE TECHNOLOGY - 3.000 - Web - Ruth A. Watso - Jan 10, 2011-Mar 02, 2011
HISTORY OF CIVILIZATION I - 3.000 - Web - Molly M. Sergi - Jan 10, 2011-May 01, 2011
Which shouldn't be too bad. those tech classes should be pretty easy overall, as it seems to be on basics and such. Plus, if they're anything like my VCD class this semester, I'll be prepared by knowing more than the average student and I'll still end up learning something. Win/Win.

I need to figure out a major at some point.

Laurie and her mercenary name, Gwen in some god-awful outfit, a commission in progress and sketches of Gram and Alexis. Hurrah! I'm sad I didn't save the high resolution file of the Laurie one. I did it really sketchy because I was going to go an ink it proper later on, but I ended up really liking how it turned out and the text was a pain in the ass to do. But I didn't, so oh well.

My webspace is down, but you can still view stuff on my Tumblr artblog.
obliviousally_lj: (Default)

A few people inquired about something like this after seeing my most recent TRON-inspired piece. Someone else suggested that it might be a good thing to offer for commissions, so that's what I'm doing!

These are FLAT COLOR ONLY and only $35 (which still qualifies for my holiday freebies!), additional characters are still $10/each. That's $5 cheaper than my normal flat color pieces, mainly because I get a lot of creative freedom with designing the bodysuits. I mean, you can obviously give me ideas and such, but it's unlikely anyone's going to have a specifically detailed design down for their character's body suit.

If you do, well, then more power to you!

Comment BELOW if you're interested and spread the word!

[ click through for my actual commission page ]

So I finally got around to re-doing my commission page. These are my discounted holiday prices (with freebies, too!!) because I need the monies and it's not the end of the world for my to drop my prices for a little bit. I'm hoping it'll get some people interested.

I spent, like, almost all day yesterday on this and I'm pretty proud of it. It's half InDesign (for the placement and text and all that) and half Photoshop (for doing the slices and making it pretty for the web). I included some of my non-furry art on it too, so people could see I CAN and will do non-furry stuff.

In life-stuff, I don't have class until Monday (huzzah!). Tony got a job at the local Walmart. I've been putting in lots of applications, but I'm hoping the Walmart will open some more positions and I can get in there because it'll just be easier. Giant Eagle called me, but it's been hell to find where to call them back at because they don't have HR in the stores anymore and all that hiring stuff is done through corporate. I deleted the voicemail when I recieved it because I was under the assumption all I needed to do was call the store back and set up an interview. But that wasn't the case and the manager was completely unhelpful.

I have a little more money towards the rent thanks to a friend, but I'm still $160 short. Which is an immense pain in the ass. I haven't gotten paid from my art modeling assignments yet. Which is even more of a pain in the ass. If it doesn't show up this weekend, I'll have to go raise hell at the career services office because that's almost $100 I'm waiting on.

Classes are going okay. Unfortunately, I'm rocking a D in my Art History class, which really sucks. My downfall is dates and locations. I can tell you all sorts of weird shit about any of the paintings, but I can't remember which Renaissance period the piece was done in and that's a good part of the exams. There's one more exam and I kind of have to pust ass remembering every little detail in order to pull my grade up to a C so I don't have to retake the course.

My VCD exams are horrendus. Okay, so. I do really well in my VCD class. All my assignments have 100% on them, it's an EASY class. But the exams are hell. He wants us to remember things verbatim out of the reading material we have and, apparently, 'crowding' and 'clutter' are not the same things and the latter is not acceptable as an answer for the question. BUT THEY ARE THEY SAME THING. I don't know, I'm frustrated with the exams because I KNOW the dos and don'ts of graphic design, but I'm not going to remember words I'd never use for the elements of design or the principals of design or whatever he's pulling from the readings. On the up side, my average in class is still a B. It SHOULD be an A, though, but those exams really fuck me over.

First Exam: 99.00 (out of 99.00)
Selection Tool Notes: 100 (out of 100)
APPLE CUTOUT: 100 (out of 100)
GOLFER: 100 (out of 100)
Second Exam: 55.00 (out of 100.00)
cavs pdf: 100 (out of 100)
Int-Resume: 100 (out of 100)
Non-Designers 6-10/Interactive Steps: 37.50 (out of 100.00)

See, my first exam was AWESOME because we ended up having to do it over the weekend, so we could use our notes. The second exam, as you can see, was terrible because it was a lot of stuff VERBATIM from the material we had to read. Same with the third one. Now, I read the material, but I don't remember things word-for-word. If a word seems strange to me in context, I'll use a different word in place of that that means the same thing. You know, ONE I'LL REMEMBER. So it's frustrating because I feel there should be more SHOWING that we understand graphic design and less that we know the VOCABULARY. Anyone can throw out some buzzwords and sound like they know what they're doing. Not everyone can actually implement it into the design itself.

So I'm hoping for more projects and I'm REALLY hoping he has us design something on our own because that's what I'm really waiting for. I mean, it's obvious by my other grades that I KNOW what I'm doing. Like I said, I do like the class a lot, but the exams are making me go fhklgdlkgfhlfd. We did learn how to do interactive PDFs for resumes, so I think I'm going to updated/revamp mine and start using it.

I also have to go to financial aid and see if I qualify for the Last Dollar Scholarship. Basically, it's donated money from the community and such that can be used for students who have fees needing to be paid at the college. I owe $128 on my tuition due to a mix up on their end (they didn't pull it out of my dropped class refund before it was issued), but I still have to pay it by the end of the semester (middle of next month). Apparently, the average grant that students have qualified for is, like, $1500. So hopefully, since what I need is such a small amount, I'll be able to take advantage of it.

In other non lame or school news, I've started a tumblr for my character ramblings and stuff: http://junkbones.tumblr.com/ It's a lot of imagery and just chatter about my headpeople and maybe a little bit of writing (more of which you can find over at ragged breath. It's pretty fun, I like talking about my characters A LOT and it also helps to flesh some of the less developed ones out some.

Now, it's time to finish cleaning downstairs. The whole house is almost clean! Excitement! And then, Supernatural in two hours!!
obliviousally_lj: (Default)
So, as it stands, as long as I get my money from modeling on Friday, I'll have half rent. This doesn't count for the REST of the month (half rent is $260), but at least it doesn't piss my landlord off.

However.

Tony needs to get the tags for his car. Because the state is retarded and changed the time you have to get them, they charge an extravagant fee because they're assholes. So in order to even drive the car now, we have to pay $120 to get his tags. Which means we're restricted to buses only. Which is what we do normally, but I also can't job hunt or look for anything outside of the bus radius or on weekends.

SO IT'S A PRETTY COOL SITUATION.

Then I'm like, well, even if we do get the $120, that's more than can go on rent. It's a vicious fucking cycle.

Even though no one seems to be biting, could people maybe pimp out my commission stuff? If I could just get a few of those digital ones, things might level themselves out or something.

It's just dumb. I'm doing everything I can to try to get some income, but it's all just kicking me in the face. :/

I'm still job hunting. I have no money to my name. I'm just going to...leave this here.

I'm still taking ACEO and art card commissions over here and if anyone's interested in something larger, they can contact me and inquire. I really need the money.
obliviousally_lj: (Default)
Since I'm still struggling to find work and I am, officially, flat broke (I have a $5 in my wallet and that's it). Thankfully, I have my EBT card for food, so that's not an issue. But I do need money for other things and, while I'm job hunting, I think I can manage to do art cards/sketch cards and such. They're simple and quick to draw and I'm not overloaded with classwork this semester (my classes are so easy this semester it's not even funny).

ACEOs - $10 - 2½x - Full color, mailed, comes in a little slipcover to protect it.

ART CARDs - $15 - 3½x4⅞ - Full color, mailed, can be done scrapbook style or not.

Yeah, wow. Pose references have been working for me like crazy. I'm really proud of these. Like, really.

Also did this for [livejournal.com profile] suzanami because Cartwright is pink and green which is pretty much the most amazing thing ever.

Our food stamp card came today and, let me tell you, that was a blessing. Lots of food bought, almost couldn't close our freezer! Found a few ~amazing~ places that accept the Direction Card, like the Asian Food Market in Cuyahoga Falls and Krieger's Market where I bought the biggest strawberries ever.

I gotta buy Angie some noms, as well, in exchange for her helping me with the kitchen the other night. Because, believe me, that was quite the undertaking. But now downstairs is nice and clean and yay!

We're probably also going to BBQ tomorrow night for Supernatural, as long as it's warm out. Should be fun!

I scheduled an appointment to get the cats spayed for free next week. Since we get government assistance (the food stamp card) we qualify for their grant program. Which is awesome because I don't want yowling cats.

So things aren't TERRIBLE at the moment, but they're still iffy. Internet might get cut off, which will suck and I don't want to happen. But at least the library is close by, as is the student center on campus.

I have two job things to look in on. Gotta go up to Save-A-Lot and get an actual application from the manager and we have to go up to the Ryan temp services in Streetsboro and fill out some more papers. But the biggest problem with the latter is a lack of gas money, since the buses don't run up there on a regular basis. Krieger's Market was hiring, something I was PERFECT for (dock unloading/stock), but I wouldn't have a way to get out there every day. :/

We helped Greg out with All-Americon on this last Sunday.

Things went really smoothly! We had almost 400 in attendance and everyone seemed really happy! Which is nice to see.

I acquired a Star Sapphire ring and TJ got a Red Lantern ring. :3 :3 :3 We also chatted with James for a good while about art and comics and other conventions in the area.

My mom called me today to let me know my grandmother's back in the hospital. I guess she went back to the nursing home the other day, but was only there 20 hours before having another respiratory issues. The DNR order is still in place, so my mom wants to know if I can come into town in case the worst happens (or is foreseen to happen). Chances are, they're going to take her off the ventilator and things are just going to go from there.

In other news, to help get rent money together, I'm taking commissions in the style of the ones above. They're $50 each for 1-2 characters (which is $40 less than my normal commissions of that style). Downside? They're completely digital (no traditional sketch), but I'll likely get prints made and sent out in the future.

I can complete these relatively quickly, as I pushed through those three in just a few hours at a time.

For more information, click the link above. I also have a FurBuy auction up for the same thing.

I thought this might be useful for artists taking commissions and people who need to organize their income from things like commissions and such. It's completely free and it's able to track taxes and such, for folks who make enough to have to claim taxes and whatnot.

This morning we got to play a fun little game that involved pushing the car out of a foot of mud. This was an hour long ordeal that caused us to miss our Writing class, but one of the guys next door came over and helped us out, so that was awesome.

It was 50F-something today! My joy was great. I didn't have to wear a coat! It was awesome! I think spring has finally arrived.

Went into Warren with Angie to help my mom get some of my furniture loaded up into the truck. Wasn't too bad, got our mattresses (which suck, we realize) and our aquarium. My mom still has a few of our things, like our bedframe and my old timey stereo, but she said she'll bring those out on a nice day.

I have 5 for $15 batches (that's $3 EACH!) of ORIGINAL SKETCHES up on Etsy right now. Id' be a good idea to grab the ones you like, because I'll probably raise the prices at the end of the month (or whenever I gather up the money I need right now!).

http://www.etsy.com/shop/obliviousally

This is a REALLY good deal because I don't usually part with my sketches unless you're a CLOSE friend or I've done art FOR you. So if you see something you like, snag the whole batch!

If you don't wish to register for an Etsy account (the site requires you to in order to purchase, I understand that can be a pain for some folks), just let me know what item you're interested in (this includes anything listed in my shop!) and I'll pull the item from my listings and you can buy it directly through me. :3

I'm also still taking commissions over here-ish: http://www.formspring.com/forms/?903667-ttEfkktsDw

Still job hunting. I have about $200 to scrounge up to cover rent + gas/food next month. UGH. I'm really tired of not hearing back from anywhere. It shouldn't take this long to find SOMETHING and we've been putting in applications EVERYWHERE.

If worse comes to worse, I'll have to overdraw my bank account. Which, I'll be honest here, I don't want to do. But I don't want to lose my place more. Soooo...

I also need to call the food bank tomorrow and see about getting some noms.

Sigh, I cannot wait to iron out my finances in May. :/

Opening for 100 (oh my!) $10 sketch commissions. This is half price from my normal sketch commission rate, so it's a pretty good deal. :3

Mostly trying to build up some fallback while job hunting!

If you're interested, please fill out the form. DO NOT note me. DO NOT e-mail me. PLEASE use the form. That's what it's there for. :3

Any questions, please +note me or comment!

Hanging out on campus while TJ is in his therapist appointment. Had to drop some books off at the library and get one for Theatre.

Classes have been going well. Finally caught up with everything! I have my Music exam on Monday, but I think I'll do pretty good on it as long as I study Sunday night and make sure I read up on Baroque, which I missed. I'm pretty confident in my ability to get a good grade on it. Plus, it's technically the midterm, so I kind of HAVE to.

Something for some roleplaying stuff we're doing. Sort of a break from the Supernatural plot we've been on for awhile. It's good to mix things up and we just got into Dark Angel, so there you go! I'm not going to bother explaining her or anything, because that takes time and people really don't care. So!

I've been thinking about taking sketch commissions. Since we're still job hunting, I need to make sure I've got fallback cash for rent in April (we're paid up through March). I'm hoping we find something soon, but I need to get on top of it in case we don't. Y'know, cover my bases.

If I DO take on some commissions, it'll only be sketches. I'll probably do something like $10 sketches or something. I know I'm underselling myself, but it's necessity over anything else.

HOWEVER, if friends are interested in something a little more than sketches, feel free to get ahold of me.

I've got some other potential money-making things on the backburner for Etsy. Hopefully I can start to crack down on those and get a little bit of cash coming in. It's not as if I don't have /any/ money, but it's my April rent check sitting in my wallet right now. So...yeah.

Getting the house was more expensive than I initially expected (mostly because we weren't able to move our things at first). Once May comes around and our next bout of financial aid shows up, I can pay up EVERYTHING so I don't have to fret about rent and such.

Well, got a few more leads on some places. Houses in Canton are FUCKING CHEAP. Like, $600 for a 3-4 bedroom. I don't know if this is just because Canton is sort of out of the way or what, but that's fine with me. I hope it's not because they're in bad neighborhoods. We're going to look at two places (at the moment, only two) on Thursday.

I'm packing some more today because there's still a bit of stuff to sort through. Sending some things back over to the apartment that we don't need to haul along with us.

I gotta figure out what to do with the stove, the fridge and the convection oven. I think one of them goes back to my mom, but I don't remember which. I'm hoping we can sell the other two, but otherwise, I'm sure my mom can find someone who'll take them. Because I'll be damned if they're staying here and Al thinks they're his. Because they're not.

Completed (I believe, unless I need to add any extra text) reference sheet for Felysha. I probably won't offer something like this for commissions unless it's to close friends who don't mind waiting while I tweak it endlessly.

I really haven't been drawing a whole lot lately. Just haven't had the motivation to, though I'd wanted to. It's weird.

Been dicking around with Poladroid again. I wonder where TJ's Polaroid camera ever ran off to...

Here's some other shit I've been doing in leiu of art:

So, on Tumblr, a lot of people use Formspring for anonymous inquiries and stuff like that. I decided to sign up for an account in case I wanted to use it for that. Then, I realized, it would make things SO simple for commission inquiries! So I set one up, though I'm not taking any commissions right now.

http://www.formspring.com/forms/?773118-YjyWiKNuYl

I figure, when/if I do again, I can direct people there and not have to deal with the song and dance they make me do on places like FA and stuff. I'm not taking commissions through notes and shit anymore. No way. It's too hard to keep track of things and this way, it looks more proffessional as well. Which looks good on me.

To artist people on my list, how does that look? Should I add anything? Suggestions ahoy!

I also have a formspring.me account, if people enjoy asking anonymous questions: http://www.formspring.me/obliviousally

Well, it's been a little over exactly three years since I've seriously considered getting a tattoo. I'm thinking about getting one sometime next year. Like, really seriously.

I'm thinking of the plated Pentagram (from Supernatural, it's a symbol to prevent demonic possession) over my heart and the Seal of Metatron (durp, I'm can't remember my favorite games' symbols!) Halo of the Sun (from Silent Hill, it stands for rebirth/resurrection) on the same side of my back, generally aligned with on another, essentially. I'll probably get the Pentagram first, since it's much simpler than the Metatron seal and I want something on my front. Plus, I really like just plain blackwork. I don't know if I'd get something with color, to be honest.

I'd still like to get some script done, but I haven't settled on what.

I have my writing final at 11:30AM. I haven't slept, but thankfully it's all an online forum discussion. I have no idea what this is going to consist of, but whatev.

Digital badge for Felysha. I screwed up royally on the traditional one and I still haven't found a good way to fix it. So this is because I'm a huge derp. | Action-pose Poe. I hope to ink/color this one.

A ton of sketches + nudity... )

Making onigiri for my food presentation tomorrow. Then I have an essay (I haven't even started on yet) due on Wednesday. Then, no more class. I gave up on the math class on account of the proffessor. Whatever, I'll just take it next semester with a better proffessor, I suppose.

Part of me is feeling apathetic, the other part is full of energy and creativity. It's very strange.

This weekend consisted of pizza, beer and fucking classic rock at the Gyro, Supernatural marathon (got Angie halfway through S2!), and lots of Guitar Hero (which I'm still terrible at).

I want it to be January already so I don't have to worry about money. I can pay my bills, not be concerned about my critters eating or not, all of that. I also want it to be January so we can score a place in Kent, get a job (Angie's workplace is probably hiring soon) and get settled out there at the main campus. Biggest hassle will be transferring and picking from what's left class-wise. But we might luck out, considering the first week is always iffy and people drop classes they don't like. Nothing huge, just a bit of a hassle.

I'm going to try to clean the living room downstairs tonight. I'd like to put my tree up but...I don't have lights for it. Ah well, perhaps I'll get some later. If not, no big deal. But, goddamn does the living room downstairs need cleaned. I also have two TVs sitting around doing nothing and I'd like to change that. Maybe I'll put one up here in my room since we have an extra converter box and I'll leave the huge one Rob gave us downstairs.

Also, Chuck is back in the house and I'm DETERMINED to catch the little bastard now.

We did filming for Rob's zombie film school project. Went over pretty well with only one or two extra takes. Lots of running around and then getting attacked by Zombie TJ and getting to scream and flail and fight.

I'M COMIN' BACK AS A ZOMBIE FOR VENGANCE, THOUGH, MOTHERFUCKERS. THANKS FOR LEAVING ME. :E

We get to do green screen stuff tomorrow, TJ's headshot mostly. Then TJ and I get to figure out how to make gory blood sprays on a budget for the indoor fight.

Needless to say, I can't wait for next semester to take theatre classes. Believe me, I enjoy art and drawing, but acting is SO much more fun. I think it'll be a nice break from having to deal with Drawing I and Buntin until I decide what I'm going to do when we go out to Kent. I have this feeling in my gut that I'll probably end up enjoying theatre much more than forcing myself to trudge through VCD classes, I think.

Speaking of art, I've been working on some here and there.

Debating over colors. So far, red's winning with tan and green close behind. I really love that cranberry color, but the texture I used didn't show up really well with it. Ah well.

Part of [livejournal.com profile] sleepydragon01's character sheet commission. I looked back on it and realized that these two were REALLY BAD and the first one needed re-drawn really bad. So I just edited and then inked over in Sai and, oh my god, they look amazing. I'm really proud of the face on the first one. The eyes are level with each other! Amazing!!

I've got some other commissions I'm, at least, going to try to get sketched this weekend. Try to sketch out the roughs for the digital pieces, at least. Sai has really been a lifesaver for this sort of thing because I can ink so easily in it and it saves me both a lot of time and a lot of hassle. I can edit things quite easily, as well.

I have a response essay due for Writing tomorrow. I haven't even begun it. It's not like it's going to be hard, I'm just apathetic. I also have a Psych lab due. Lovely.

It's been difficult for me to even bother with school lately. Is this a normal thing? Get mid-semester and then just go 'fffffffffffffffffffuckit'? I don't know if it's because I took all LER classes (math, writing, etc.) and, FFS, Psychology. I like TALKING about psych, but I absolutely loathe the lab reports. I thought I was being all smart and responsible taking LER classes to get them out of the way, but I think it wasn't the best idea. Ah well, live and learn. I'll survive.

Oh, also, I withdrew from Drawing I. I didn't feel like putting up with Buntin's passive-agressiveness towards TJ and I and I just wasn't liking the class overall. I ran into one of the girls I have class with and told her that I'd withdrawn and she said she might do the same. She didn't sound very happy about the class, either. And I know one or two others have dropped it.

He's just not good with people and he's not a good teacher. Simple as that.

Soie surprising Mzaha with a kiss to make him shut the hell up.

And a nude... )

A completed badge, as well. It's super sparkly in person, but the scanner ate it.

Lots of homework to do, I should probably get on that.
