Stuff and ON THE SUBJECT OF RELIGION...
Dec. 25th, 2006 01:13 pmY'know, this is the first year where I'm not all 'GRRRR' at the fact that Christmas is a Christian holiday.
Oh, wait.
Maybe that's because I've GOTTEN OVER the fact that people enjoy the holidays in their own way and I don't get my proverbial panties (cause I'm not wearing any) in a twist because OMG TEH CHRISTIANS1!!1!11! Maybe that's because I have Christian friends who are worthwhile. Maybe it's because (and it took me a long time to realize this) that not all Christians are whackjobs.
Yeah. Get over it, move the fuck on, and find something different to bitch about Christianity for. There's plenty of other, BETTER things to point out.
Really. It's just obnoxious now.

Date: 2006-12-25 10:38 pm (UTC)Current Christmas tradition is to Christianity as Apple Pie is to America.
* The Christmas tree, wreaths, etc were stolen from the pagan Winter Solstice tradition as a symbol of triumphing over death. The tradition of Holly hanging from the ceilings originated here as well.
* The Yule Log was also stolen from pagan traditions- as the log was saved from May day (may first- another originally pagan holiday). The Yule log was traditionally a remaining piece from the May Pole used on May Day, and was decorated and sacrificed in an attempt to appease the gods and bring fertile grounds and rain for the crops in the coming year.
* Christmas light displays outside of homes has several origins, though the oldest one I've heard follows along with pagan variants of the yule log celebration.
Further more, the name Christmas originates from the two words, “Christ's Mass”. So if you don't go to church and attend Christmas Mass (heh- kinda like LCD Display, eh?), you're technically not celebrating the Christian holiday, and are a dirty, dirty pagan. :3

Date: 2006-12-26 06:05 am (UTC)Yes, it is a little bit about consumism. but im not going to start that.
Holidays are to be with the people you love, wheter they are friends or family or those special persons in your life. It's all about being together even if it is for a few days on the year and to share the good times.

Date: 2006-12-28 12:14 am (UTC)OK, seriously... Christmas, as it stands now, is more of a non-denominational holiday. It's an end of the year celebration, where we look to the people we have around us, and let them know just how much they mean to us and to thank them for being in your life.
