There is something in that wikipedia article about the Kirin in Japan being compared to a dragon/unicorn, but it is so badly written and makes such little sense that it makes me wonder about its authorship. I know one of the legs of the ThunderMegazord was a kirin, and it looked unicorn-ish.

arguing about what mythological japanese monsters "are" is kind of pointless because they're different according to whoever paints/draws/writes about them...even far back in history. there's a "standard" common design, sure, but really they're a whole bunch of mashed-together animals and it doesn't really matter. :P even in that wikipedia entry it's pretty blatant, one looks like a dog, the other looks like a dragon, and they refer to one that looks more like a horse.

i've got a big baku tattooed on my hip that has hooves instead of tiger paws, but the artist thought it would look more graceful and gentle with hooves which is what i was going for. *shrug* it's still a baku.

I could insult someone's mother, father, and grandparents, and usually say it in such a manner they'd even joke about it.. or alteast I can do a good job of insulting them and they'd be the same way. Though.. I really don't have an account there.. so.. it'd be kinda odd, kinda like walking into a store you have no reason being in.. kinda like being in Victoria's Secret if you don't have a girlfriend and ain't into crossdressing.. kinda odd.
