Rasputina! Voltaire! Excite!
Feb. 23rd, 2011 09:32 amAaaaaaa, last night was ~amazing~!
It was, of course, Rasputina and Voltaire at the Beachland. Now, admittedly, I only KNOW one Voltaire song (When You're Evil), so I didn't expect to be really 'wow'ed by his set. I was aiming for eyecandy and some entertainment with him, honestly. But I got more than I expected because he's hilarious and crazy personable. We met him before the show at his merch table and he played a great bunch of songs (if I'm recalling correctly: Death Death (Devil, Devil, Evil, Evil Song), Zombie Prostitute, Brains!, Land of the Dead, Vampire Club (Twilight Version), Hate Lives in a Small Town, All Women are Crazy, When You're Evil and a song whose title I cannot find about coming out at Christmas).

After his set, we bought merch (one of those key necklaces and the Hate Lives in a Small Town album - which I had him sign to Pamcake, Tony bought one of his vinyl toy werewolves that doubles as MP3 player speakers or somesuch) and bullshat with him, including pictures!

Then, Rasputina! I fully expected not to know the majority of the songs they played - I hadn't listened to their new album much and I mainly know every track from Thanks For the Ether and their older albums. But that was fine and I knew I'd enjoy the show regardless. But they played a few older songs I knew and a few newer songs I kind of knew but didn't know well enough.
But aaaaa, cellos! Pretty much amazing all around and we were third/fourth row back, so we had a great view and were right by the speakers. I also love Melora's banter between songs! She's pretty much adorable.

Here's what I rememeber them playing:
They encore'd with Possum of the Grotto, Rusty the Skatemaker and then Melora made us choose between Wish You Were Here and Hunter's Kiss, which was SUCH a hard decision, but I'd been wanting to hear Hunter's Kiss live in person really bad. Apparently, so did everyone else! But it was aaaamazing, especially the heavier part in the middle with the electric cello.
Afterwards, Tony and my mom's legs were killing them (despite my gothy stompy boots, my feet/legs weren't too bad), so we didn't stick around to meet Rasputina or check out merch, unfortunately. But we skimmed over their table before the show and I already have most of the albums I wanted anyhow. Had I thought about it, I should have taken my Thanks For the Ether to be signed, but I think it's still at the apartment in Warren. D:
So, a good night! Would definately see both again and I think I'd immerse myself more in Rasputina if I did, so I knew more songs! XD I have some videos I'm going to try and pull caps from - I couldn't get many good photos because the lighting was low and I couldn't hold my hands steady.
On the way home we stopped at the Sheetz in Streetsboro and found FOUR LOKO, so we bought a few cans for lulz. Also, noms. Nom nom nom. Now I've been up since 8AM, because my mom was up and headed out to go back home. Chances naps will be in order at some point: likely.
