"please appreciate; i dont expect much attention for this, as it isnt some anime chick with huge boobs and angel wings or a photo of a pretty sunset/landscape, or some 3d program filter produced aesthetically pleasing piece of garbage. but.
try to detach yourself from all of the ideals of what's "good art" and what's not, and learn to look at things in a way such that *you* decide what you like. learn to create and draw with this, too. thinking more of the emotion and push behind the piece, rather than whether or not it will meet the unspoken guidlines and rules people have told you make "good art"; perfect proportions, certain colors, certain poses and themes, certain concepts of origionality... etc.
try to make something because you want to; and love a piece because its part of you and it expresses you. your ideas. the world you see around you. use yourself as a sort of a filter. a prizm. taking one thing that everybody else sees as a plain line of light, and turn it into something unique and beautiful. something you.
learn to appriciate things, and not depend on comments or views to determine the 'quality' of your art. draw what you feel and feel what you draw.
i'm not dissing or saying "don't draw anime cutey stuff!" hellno, i do that and i love it. but. what i'm trying to say is
when you want to make a statment with your art
when you want to express yourself through art
don't limit yourself to unspoken rules and standards.
do whatever the fuck you want.
popularity and admiration come naturally, after that
but,
i'm pretty sure that
when/if you ever learn to do what i'm trying to (clumsily) describe
popularity and admiration will only be a bonus
and not a cause."
That's the most fucking brilliant thing I've ever heard anyone say. Thank you, Dana.
