So.

The Hunger Games was flawless.

Yes, a lot had to be packed into a two hour movie and yes that does take away from the introspection you receive in the book from Katniss, since it's told from her perspective, but it was still flawless.

I've heard people complaining about a few things, and I wanted to touch on them.

Jennifer Lawrence's Acting - I've been hearing people say that she sounded like she was reading off cue cards, that she was flat, etc., etc. I didn't see this at all. In the novel, Katniss always seemed detached, distant. She had to take up the role of mother, of father, of homemaker, and breadwinner for the house after her father died. Her mother all but shut down. Katniss had to, at a young age (remember, she's only sixteen in the book, and her father died before that), take a role she wasn't prepared for and didn't know how to handle. She's not particularly good at relating to people, either. The interaction with her mother, while cold and terse, seemed appropriate. Katniss was bitter about how her mother closed up, she was angry that she had to take the place of not one, but two parents for her younger sister. Even at sixteen that attitude doesn't fade away, take it from someone who grew up with an absent father and a mother who ran away from all her problems. I think Jennifer's acting was spot on. Katniss, after being taken out of her district, is awkward, unsure, completely overwhelmed by the whole experience and I think that is shown well.

Rue Being Black - THIS WAS IN THE BOOK, ASSHOLES, IT WAS CLEARLY STATED, I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW YOU MISS SOMETHING LIKE THIS. JUST BECAUSE KATNISS SAID RUE REMINDED HER OF PRIM DOESN'T MEAN THEY LOOK IDENTICAL JESUS SHITFUCKING CHRIST. Also, the Jezebel link was the first one that came up on my dash while writing this, so that's what you get.

Shaky Camera - I...didn't have an issue with this? I don't know why people would. In most places, it gave the perspective of Katniss in rushed situations. I didn't feel it was overdone or obnoxious, but shaky camera also doesn't bother me or make me feel sick, either.

Now that that's out of the way.

Everyone was flawless. Like, I don't say this often, I can usually go 'well, this didn't quite sell it for me', but I thought everything was perfect. I know we don't get a lot of detail on why some things happen the way they do. Specifically, Katniss coming around with the whole romance thing to get the salve for Peeta's leg. It's noted in the novel that she is doing that for better ratings, better chances, better sponsors; to win, essentially. But she plays with it so Peeta doesn't know. I think it is later clarified in the book, or maybe in Catching Fire. I can't recall. But it doesn't take a genius to make the connection between Haymitch's note and her new reaction to Peeta in the cave.

The scene where Katniss sees Prim and her mother before they leave made me cry. Rue's death made me sob like a baby I can't even dflkghjdlfkgd. So many emotions.

Pretty much every time Katniss started to cry, tears started welling up in my eyes.

ALSO THE FUCKING MUTTS SLDKGHLDFKG They were so creepy in the book when you realized what they were. It's not specifically touched on in the movie, but the growling and human-esque noises before Thresh is killed by them should be a good hint.
