So I mentioned once, back in mid-October, that I was planning on doing NaNoWriMo this year.
I am and it's been... It's just been.
I started planning my story back in the summer, but I'm awful with plotting and actually planning a story. I can gradually piece things together in snippets and drabbles, which is why I roleplay so much. But trying to plan a coherent story? It's a cute idea.
So I've been hammering away at writing relevant pieces of the story first - all the little plot ideas and stuff that I jotted down over the last month or two. I figure, once I get the big things down, I can work on making sense of the how and why they happened. It really seems like a backwards way of doing things, but whatever works, right?
So far, I'm at 5,244 words. I didn't write at all yesterday because I was tired and unmotivated after having to get up early and then go grocery shopping. But I got 1,564 words out this morning, so I think I should be back on top of things by the end of the day.
I'm also writing a secondary story, alongside my main one. It's about Poe and her whole ghost-seeing-medium ability. Poe's going to be in the main story, as the main story centers around her favorite cousin and his girlfriend. But she's a minor character in it. Since she's easy to write, however, I'm kind of cheating by doing a side story with her and it gives me something to switch off to.
I've been having an awful lot of trouble finding voices for my main characters. I have their basics down, but I feel like I can't do Connor justice to how I picture him in my mind and I don't want Nicole to come off as a complete bitch because of her temper. Since I haven't had the time to develop them like I have my other characters (which a good portion of has been through roleplaying), it's been hard to write them in a manner I'm happy with or that feels 'right'.
I realize I started rambling when I really only meant to share my tumblr link for my NaNo stuff. XD If you're interested in following my clusterfuck and complaints, my novel blog is here: lacearoundthewound.tumblr.com
Also! If you want to add me as a buddy on the NaNo site, this is my profile: nanowrimo.org/en/participants/obliviousally
