Remember me talking about the Fusion furry article last semester? Well, the issue is finally out.

I scanned the article, but it's nothing speciall. Just typical furry stuff from, apparently, the ~lone~ furry in Kent (read: not true). BUT! I actually had a little blurb in the latter half of the article:

I really like 'fearlessly outspoken' and 'biting commentary'. And, yes, everything I said there is accurate, no 'media hype'. The JMC department is pretty good about not twisting words around because they'll get their asses handed to them by the school. There's journalism ethics classes for a reason, after all.

I uploaded the full article here in PDF format, if anyone wants to read the whole thing.

A few notes: the mascot costume on the cover isn't anyone's. It's a rented costume. No one around here (aside from Tony and I - and something came up for us the day of the shoot) had fursuits, so they had to rent a few. There's a bit after the article that I didn't bother scanning (along with the photoshoot - unless anyone really wants it, it's '3D'.) explaining the differences between a mascot style suit and a fandom-made fursuit.

Did the article cut off in the middle? O.o It goes from talking about this guy being a Presbyterian straight to the part with you.

Also, where do I get one of these? o.o

Aaa, I'll check and see what I did wrong. I might've paged them wrong somehow. I'll have to fix that.

They're all over campus in the magazine racks.

I did wonder what she found interesting enough to take notes on while she was there with us in the student center. Apparently nothing XD.

We were kinda... noncommunicative. At least she got the pickle/crayon thing in.

Eh, having someone sitting there attempting to write an article doesn't exactly lower the awkwardness level. It seemed more like they lacked questions or, at least, weren't interested in asking us in particular. Perhaps we could have spoken more, but, at the same time, we aren't exactly all familiar with one another yet =).

I believe them showing up (I'm not sure who showed up exactly) was kind of last minute. I'd mentioned the meetup a few days earlier in an e-mail and I'd intended on going to sort of be the mediator, but other things came up. D:

ONLY WITH MYSELF BB

I actually mentioned you when I was chatting with the girl and said you were a fursuit/costume maker, but it probably was too much to mention that and then have to explain it in any manner. It was likely easier to just say 'artist' and leave it at that.

Just got a couple of those through the door for my part; I posted a summary on Flayrah (//www.flayrah.com/3416/ksus-gay-magazine-interviews-furry-students) for those not able to pick it up from the rack.

I thought the photographer did a pretty good job. Heck, the writing wasn't that bad either, though it wandered over the topic as magazine articles are wont to do. I was a little amused at the entirely uncritical tone, but I guess it's their mission to be life-choice-affirming. And honestly, the fandom really is mostly harmless, even if it's a little freaky at times.

Yeah, considering it's a college LGBT magazine, the uncritical tone is probably required with something like this. Though, I did have a long conversation with the writer of the article (my snippet is only a very small bit of our convo) where I was pretty critical of fandom stuff over all. But then, this wasn't my article, it was about Robby and I'm surprised I even got anything in it at all!

But, overall, yeah, it was a pretty nice article and didn't give me horrible secondhand embarrassment, which is always good!

At least they didn't make up your quotes (//community.livejournal.com/furrymedia/182568.html)! (Though I had even lower expectations from them; I'm glad they didn't just make overt fun of the whole concept.)

And yeah - I got the whole "personal profile" vibe thing going on there. Nice impish photo of him on the front page of the feature.

Our college is VERY serious about misquoting/misrepresenting people who are interviewed. On top of that, I was prepared in case that happened and no one would have been happy with me going down to the JMC building and raising hell. The JMC students have to take ethics courses, as well, so they should know better (at least, while enrolled at the school).

The article is very well put together design-wise, which I liked as well.
