Now I remember why I was avoiding the
tonypepper. Except it wasn't probably getting on my ass about Don Cheadle's skin color. It was all the goddamn prego fics. Regardless, this is about the former, surprisingly.
It started as this: http://fallenangel.furtopia.org/JUNK/TONYPEPPER_FFFFFFFFFF.png
And, y'know what? Yeah, Cheadle's skin tone is an issue. That's not how I picture Rhodey and that's not how he was presented in the first film. On top of that? He's thinner, he has a different facial structre and he knows nothing about Iron Man or War Machine at all. He was actually QUOTED as saying he thought Iron Man was just a robot. Terrance Howard is a FAN of the comics. He was EAGER to play Rhodey. If I was the exec for the film, I WOULD HAVE paid extra for Howard to stick around because he knew the material and would have stayed true to it.
Howard gets the shaft by the fans because his role was cut short in the theatrical release.
Of course, I hopped over to her journal to see what might have prompted this absurd decision that I'm obviously some kind of horrible person for thinking characters should have some consistancies in a film and found this.
You know what? No, those Oscars don't mean shit. There's dozens of BETTER actors out there who've never been 'graced' with an Oscar.
I just find this hilarious that someone is getting so up in arms over something so petty. I'm not pointing out his skin color because OH NO HE'S BLACK. I could give two shits either way about if he's fucking Asian or African-American or Caucasian. It's all the same to me. But I can only suspend my disbelief so long and inconsistencies with characters. Even moreso in comic books, you've all heard me bitch about Tony and Pepper in the Invincible Iron Man comics. It's the same damn mindset. They don't look like the characters and that's particurarly annoying when there's a set design for the character.
Same thing, except in a film.
Why is this so difficult to understand?
EDIT: UGH I AM DONE. Good god. I am wasting my breath on someone that's refusing to understand what I'm saying and, quite frankly, if someone wants to think I'm a racist over something so petty, so be it. Good lord.
ARGUING ON THE INTERNET IS LIKE RUNNING IN THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS. YOU MIGHT WIN, BUT YOU'RE STILL A RETARD.
Truly. If someone thinks I'm such a horrible person over this, big deal. No skin off my back.
EDIT: We pointed out that her choice of what to critique was problematic and why. She could have said "oh, I hadn't realized my pants were down. I'll pull them up now" and moved on, but she didn't.
This is absurd. Maybe if I had made some sort of comment that I was aware was OH NOES RACIST, perhaps I would have apologized. But I'm just talking about skin color. It's just a COLOR. I'm not the one hung up on the fact that OH NO COMMENTS ABOUT SKIN TONE EQUALS RACISM. Because, uh, that's not the case at all.
Putting words in my mouth, eh?
But, hey, I figure I'm never going to be able to level with someone who pulls SO MUCH from a comment on the internet AND is some sort of I AM POWERFUL WOMAN and doesn't like rapefic/dubcon.
Oh, there's another bad person mark for me. Whoops! Guess I'm not only opressing black folks, I'm ALSO backtracking feminism and girl power by decades or some bullshit.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now I'm just trollan. :D

OH NOES I SAID SOMEONE'S TOO DARK FOR THE WAY THE CHARACTER WAS INTRODUCED TO US AND THE WHOLE INTERNET IS AFTER ME BAWWWW
It's a good thing I have better shit to do.

Date: 2009-08-17 12:20 am (UTC)I really thought Howard was more personable. And much more of someone who would kick back with Tony outside of a work environment. I mean, could you picture Cheadle in the jet scene? With the stewardesses (oh no, I bet I'm also a horrible person for not calling them 'flight attendants'!)? I sure as hell can't.

Date: 2009-08-26 07:05 am (UTC)Terrence Howard: 1) his personality suits the role better. 2) The original movie sets him up. 2) the pretty that is Terrence Howard. 3) The pretty that is Terrence Howard and Robert Downey jr. together, at last.
IT'S THE BLACK CRUSADERS!
Dude, we are so frigging busy. This shit is not even on our radar.

Date: 2009-08-17 01:09 am (UTC)I really want to write an essay about fanfiction/fandom and rape culture, but I'm not sure where to start. I'm sure someone's already written one about this, or about romance novels and the same.
