Might as well post the second batch of photos from the other day!
These are from the Waterworks. It was once some sort of plant or factory that did SOMETHING, I'm assuming, with the Mahoning River. I can't seem to find anything on the internet about it. Which means I'm going to have to trek to the library and check out microfilm and all that. Especially to find when it was demolished, which was at least ten years ago. Probably 1998, as I was in North Carolina when they tore it down (which pissed me off to no end).
But really, I'm on the hunt to find photos of it when it was still standing. Because it was pretty amazing. And I'm shocked that it's so hard to find any information on it.
HOWEVER. The main reason for our trip out was to check out the tunnel I found years back (before the place was demolished), but wasn't able to explore because it was pretty much pitch black. Since the place was torn down, the vents (I believe) that filtered in the faintest amount of sunlight had been knocked out because they were dumping in dirt through the vent openings. So there were piles of dirt we had to climb over every few feet. We went as far as we could before we discovered MUD. Not wanting to get stuck or completely dirty, we headed back above ground.
But we could see light at the far end, so the tunnel goes quite a ways. I'm not sure where else it goes past that, however. Or even what that lies underneath.
The best find, though? Stalactites on the ceiling near the door. :D :D They were about an inch to an inch and a half long. Which means they've been growing for awhile and no one else has probably been down there. Or noticed them. :D
I just wish I'd made the connection between stalactites making stalgmites. We probably tromped on some teeny ones. :/

I'm STILL waiting on money in the mail from a few commissioners. It'd be REALLY HELPFUL right now as I only have $0.50 in my bank account and over a week to payday. How frustrating.
All interest seems to have dried up with badges, too. Maybe it's because FWA was just this last weekend. But, I don't know. I post and post and post and I'm not getting any more bites.
I'm feeling grumpy and bleh. And I know it's not PMS. Maybe it's the weather. It's been rainy here the last few days.
