Freckles. Again. She's all I'm able to doodle lately. Not a bad thing, I guess, but I should be working on commissions. x_x But I need some time for personal art, too.

The hours between 8AM and 12PM this morning and the hour bath this evening were the only good parts of the day.

The rest of the day?

ABSOLUTELY AWFUL.


There's such epic work drama right now. They pulled me and two others (R, P) out of softlines and left on other lady (S, who'd only been over there a month, tops, but has worked at the sotre for quite awhile) and threw in one of the girls from hardlines (D, who'd NEVER worked over there). Now, see, there's still two ladies left in softlines who have always been there. DB and J. They are mother and daughter and it's somehow okay for THEM to work together, but not couples. J is okay, depending on if her mother is there to influence her opinion on things. DB is just a cranky bitch. DB, I believe, is also supposed to be the TRAINER for softlines. Which I've NEVER seen her do. Yes, I know that we all sort of help each other over there, but STILL. I've never seen her have a new person shadow her and actually TRAIN someone.

SO.

Manager R sends me and R to work the line (unloading the truck). Fine, that's cool. I actually like working the line. After the truck is finished, we go back over to softlines because THAT'S WHERE WE WORK. Manager S comes by and goes 'Oh, you two are in C and D, no softlines.' (C and D meaning sections C and D, the housewares/domestics department).

I. Am. LIVID.

See, I'm not pissed about being ejected from softlines for the day. No. I'm pissed because S, as well as she does over there, doesn't actually know where everything is or even how to deal with some shit that comes in or what some tages mean and blah blah blah. So poor D was left wandering around because J ditched her (J does the hanging racks and D was, apparently, supposed to learn those. something I'm also pissed about because she asked me if I wanted to be the one to help with racks when things got heavy for Christmas.) and D ditched her (because D does shoes and infants clothes and not a whole lot else that I actually see). So she was left with S to try and figure out how the hell things work over there.

And, yeah, softlines doesn't seem like it's that hard. And it's not. Once you know where things are. You don't have box labels telling you what tables things go on or where the girls socks are or anything like that. And the PDAs don't help because there aren't actually aisles or anything. And it's hard to find the locations on the fixtures. It's all visual and just knowing the layout of the departments.

I talked to Manager S after break and asked if S and D were the only ones doing the tables and stuff in softlines. He told me yes, that's what his boss (Manager R) told him to do. I pointed out that there was some seriously flawed logic there, but logic doesn't seem to exist in the store and then walked off. I'm sure word will get to Manager R and I'llg et shit of it today. But, y'know what? You don't throw people into a department they have no training in. And you don't throw people into, essentially, shark infested waters.

J and DB can be TOTAL BITCHES when it comes to new folks in softlines. They were like that to me and they were like that to Crazy DB (ah, there's a long story...). I wasn't terribly familiar with the hanging racks when I came to this store. So I had to ask how they were set up and ask about the numbers and where everything went. I remember them being really short with me. They were like that with D today, as well. Not actually explaioing how the racks are set up (they're in a certain order) or even the basics on what always goes in a certain place (Converse only being mens/ladies, anything with T or M on the hanger always goes to infants, etc., etc.). I explained this in ten minutes to D in the car and she was like 'well, I wish someone had told me that!'.

So I'm pushing D to approach Manager R or Manager S about DB and J and the huge lack of training. I'm going to bring it up as well because, since D has to learn the tables and such, someone who's been there awhile and KNOWS WHAT THEY'RE DOING needs to train them. Meaning me or SH (SH got the boot from softlines about a month or so ago, she's been pulling pallets and working hardlines. she has no idea why.). Because, apparently, DB isn't going to step up and try to be tolerable while doing it.

It was just such a catastrophe.

I also got word of sexual harassment (AWESOME!) from Manager S towards D and RH (one of the other younger girls in hardlines) and also discovered from D that Manager S is slightly racist, 'We don't hire lazy people. As you can see, there's no blacks here.'.

AWESOME!


It's taken a year, but this is the first time I've come home full of absolute rage. I was so pissed at work today, I wanted to cry.

Congratulations, your mid-level managers are stupid. Apparently softlines is where you get trained in having a thick skin and learning how to do things your own damn self instead of being taught by someone competent.
