Goddamn I'm apathetic. I just want to lie in bed and sleep all day. I hate when I get like this but I'm so damn pissed about TJ losing her job that I don't want to do anything. I was to just waste away in bed and pierodically check the internet in case something interesting has happened.

I really hate it when I get like this, to be honest. It's unmotivating, it's annoying, it's just plain sad.

01] What is your pen name?
ObliviousAlly

02] How did you get the name?
I used to use the handle 'fallenangel' online, but it's SO cliche. I needed something new and unique. The name I have now is a thin reference to the Soul Asylum song Shut Down and the lyric oblivious to the obvious. Tacking my nickname (Ally) onto 'oblivious' just sounded good. And no one else has the name and it's not 'murryfoxchan48' or something stupid in the fandom. So I can use it OUTSIDE the fandom and not look like a retard.

03] Do you use PC or Mac?
PC. I've never actually sued a Mac!

04] What software do you use most often?
Paint Shop Pro 5, Photoshop CS3

05] Do you use mouse, or tablet?
Tablet. I'm awful at inking with it, however. And we're on the outs lately, as I haven't used it a whole lot since Seattle.

06] The color you use most often is?
Black, purple, blue. Lots of blue lately, with the Pepper/Freckles pics. I really love warm colors, though. But I try to keep things varied.

07] What area of the pictures do you put most effort into?
Clothes. Even though it should be going towards learning proper facial expressions and hot to draw hands like a normal person.

08] How long does it take you do draw a picture?
Depends. If I'm in the zone, sketches don't take long. Large colored pieces can take a few days off and on. Especially with shading.

09] Do you keep your rough drafts?
Yeah. I have so many barely-started images it's not even funny.

10] What kind of font do you use most often?
Arial for my copyrights at the bottom of my images. I like fancy swirly fonts and handwriting fots, though. Sometimes I just use my own handwriting. Whatever's suitable for the image, really.

11] What's the dpi when you scan?
300dpi. My computer can barely handly anything larger.

12] Do you do anything else when you're drawing pictures?
Music. Maybe not so much when I'm at home, because the TV's usually on, but when I spend time at the mall drawing, I always have my headphones on.

13] How many pictures do you draw in a month?
Oh gosh, that varies so much. Last month I did, like, 15? 20? 12 commission pieces, at least. Even if they're not completed yet. I wish I could make myself draw more, but I just take it as it comes these days.

14] What kind of paper do you draw your pictures on?
Cardstock primarily. But I love Bristol board. <3

15] What kind of paper do you use for sketches and drafts?
Same as above. I don't do a lot of 'drafts'. If it looks good, I run with it.

16] How long does it take to ink something?
Depends on the amount of detail. I can put down base inks pretty quickly, it's all the fine details and things that make it look good that take long.

17] Do you do doujinshi or original manga?
Nope. No regular COMICS, either. though I have comic paper sitting around here somewhere.

18] Do you like doujinshi? Is it fun making it?
I like most artistic forms, so yeah. And I wouldn't really know, I've never really seriously attempted a comic outside of that failed webcomic I tried doing years ago.

19] Ever submitted anything to a magazine?
Probably when I was little. I likely sent in art to the Archie Sonic comics at some point.

20] Did it get published?
Nope. Not that I recall, at least.

21] Who are your favorite artists?
Professional: Todd DeZago/Mike Wieringo (Tellos), Sam Kieth (The Maxx, Sandman, etc...), Wendy Pini (Elfquest), Chris Sanders (Lilo and Stitch), Juanjo Guarnido (Blacksad),
Fandom/Misc: Savannah Horrocks, Mitsene, Bara-chan, Bri-chan, Arphalia, Celesse, Skech, Dark Natasha, Oni, Strype, Vinci, Vera, Seel, Coffinberry, IvyBeth, Jaxer, Kacey, Loish, Tracy Butler, etc., etc., etc.
I have a lot more, but if I started listing them all this thing would never end.

22] What's your favorite Anime/Manga (cartoons/comics)?
Anime/Manga: Cowboy Bebop, X-Day, Confidential Confessional, FAKE, Samurai Champloo, Excel Saga, Wild Knights Gulkeeva, Mononoke Hime, Spirited Away, Twelve Kingdoms, Chobits, Battle Royale...
Cartoons/Comics: Ren & Stimpy, Sandman, Elfquest, Blacksad, Titan AE, The Last Unicorn, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Megas XLR, Venture Bros., Futurama...
I'm not big into anime/manga anymore and it's been a long time since I picked up comics. But I'm being a fag and downloading torrents of comics that are, apparently, MUST READS, so maybe that'll change!

23] Favorite Characters?
Currently, it's Tony/Pepper from the Iron Man movieverse.

24] Any artists that you'd like to draw like?
I think I'd more like to learn from the artists I admire than draw like them.

25] Do you buy books a lot?
I wish. Books are so expensive.

26] Did you ever buy a book to inspire you to draw?
Oh, definately. Elfquest is a huge factor in my endless improvement.

27] Any video games you enjoy?
Silent Hill (1, 2, 3), No More Heroes, Pikmin, Animal Crossing, Manhunt, Fatal Frame, Golden Sun, Legend of Zelda (Oracle of Seasons/Ages, Twilight Princess), Resident Evil, etc., etc...

28] Any favorite characters from video games?
Heather (Silent Hill), Pyramid Head (Silent Hill), Link (Legend of Zelda), Jill (Resident Evil), Carlos (Resident Evil), etc., etc.

29] Do you have a favorite writer?
God, I haven't read much outside of fanfic in a long time it's hard to say. I really adore what Wendy and Richard Pini did with Elfquest, of course. And I love my GF, TJ's, writing. OH! Eric Garcia!

30] Any books you really enjoy?
Eric Garcia's Anonymous Rex, Casual Rex and Hot and Sweaty Rex. READ THEM. They're awesome.

31] Do you write fanfics?
I try, but I fail. They are hidden under my SHAME.

32] Any music that you often listen to while drawing?
Yes. Anything and everything, depending on my mood and what I'm drawing.

33] Any recommended songs?
Ffff. For drawing? I don't know. I've really been digging a lot of indie stuff lately. Ludo, Monkey Swallows the Universe, CocoRosie, Bell x1, The Kills, etc., etc...

34] Any web sites that you totally admire?
http://www.lackadaisycats.com/
http://www.nethersphere.com/
http://www.raingate.net/

35] Do you have any sites you want to go to every day?
Livejournal, DeviantART, FurAffinity, 4chan

36] What is your dream site like?
I'm kinda liking how my site looks now. I just need to learn CSS and refine things.

37] Do you like your own art?
For the most part, yes. I know I have a lot to learn and it's really a never-ending learning process.

46] Are you a computer expert?
I'm really unsure what this question is aiming for...

47] Want to become a professional artist?
I would. But deadlines and stuff are my downfall. I'd like to do things on my own and maybe pick up professional freelance stuff on the side.

48] Any other jobs you're interested in, besides illustration?
Really anything involving art would be awesome. Fashion design, animation, etc...

49] Any other specialties besides drawing?
I'm decent with computers. But I'm kind of a jack of all trades, master of none.

50] Do you like to watch movies?
Yes! I love movies.

51] What's your favorite movie?
Iron Man, Men in Black, Sin City, Cloverfield, Ginger Snaps, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, etc., etc.

52] Have you ever entered art contests?
When I was little. I won a chalk-on-the-walk contest in elementry school and some other contest for some no smoking thing in elementry school, as well.

53] When did you start drawing seriously?
About ten or so years ago. When I got into the furry fandom.

54] Anything that you often use as a reference when you draw?
Not really? I try to reference things, but when I'm sketching I don't always get that luxury.

55] Have you met any of your fans online?
The term 'fans' is so foreign to me. But I've met people who like my work or have bought commissions and stuff from me at conventions.

56] You have a lot of pen pals?
Nope.

57] You have a lot of friends that draw?
TJ used to draw, and Angie draws when she has the time. But most of my artist friends are out of my area.

58] What time do you usually go online?
I'm always online. Seriously.

59] Do you like to go to chat rooms?
I hang out on IRC a lot.

60] Do you have your own computer?
Yeah. It's a hunk, but I love it.

61] What would you say to the person you admire?
That they're awesome.

62] Do you think of things when you draw?
Sometimes.

63] Have you drawn badly because you think too much?
Yeah. D:

64] Do you have any friends who are professionals?
...no?

65] Where do you often hang out?
Home. D:

66] Do you have any artists that you don't like too much?
Are we speaking on personality or artistic style? Because that's a huge difference...

67] Situations in which you really don't like being online?
When conventions are happening and I'm not at them. There's no one around to chat with and no art being uploaded.

68] Situations you hate when it comes to having web sites?
I can't say I've had a lot of issues there...

69] Something that makes you really glad that the Internet exists?
The networking capabilities. The ability to find so many more people and learn from them.

70] What about things that make you NOT glad that the Internet exists?
The fact that everyone has an opinion on your work and it's not even constructive most of the time.

71] What's the first picture you've ever shown to the public online?
Probably some furry bullshit.

72] Do you still have that?
I might.

73] Has your drawing style changed a lot?
Oh, yes. So much so. Thank god.

74] How does it usually change?
I tend to go though spells where nothing looks right. And then I figure out what was wrong and it's generall a great improvement.

75] Have you experienced artists block before?
Yup. And it sucks.

76] How did you escape from it?
I just wait it out, generally. Try to doodle in the meantime.

77] What happens when you have artists block?
I just can't seem to get anything to look right. But, on the upside, I usually know this the the precursor to some sort of change in my art.

78] Any artists that have influenced you a lot?
Bara-chan's the reason I started drawing, really. She was a huge influence on me in the beginning. Her, Anya, Sebrina, etc., etc.

79] What made you start drawing?
The Sonic the Hedgehog comics and finding Yerf! years ago.

80] What made you want to get a web site?
I was making fansites for stuff before I even had an art site. They were just fun to make.

81] Where did your site name come from?
It was completely random, but it stuck. It's 'Pipedreams', by the way.

82] What do you think about net manners?
Overall, they suck. Seriously.

83] Have you ever been spammed?
Not really.

84] Ever thought about quitting your web page?
Only because I'm so lazy about making new layouts and updating it.

85] If so, why?
See above.

86] About how many KB is each picture?
Pff, I don't know. XD It's not something I keep track of.

87] When creating your site, do you use a program or pure html?
HTML.

88] Do you have good eyesight?
Not without my glasses.

89] If you can get any person's autograph, whose would you get?
Fff. I don't know. Probably Wendy Pini's.

90] What would you say to that artist when he/she autographs for you?
Oh geeze, I'd probably be a retarded fangirl.

91] Do you have fans of your art?
I think so?

92] Do you like to draw on oekaki bbs?
I used to.

93] Were you good at art in school?
In comparison to my peers, yeah.

94] Did you take art lessons other than from school?
I took comic art classes from Peter Smith.

95] Have you drawn a manga?
Nope.

96] What's your favorite phrase/quote?
Remember crime against property is not real crime. People look at an oil painting and admire the use of brushstrokes to convey meaning. People look at a graffiti painting and admire the use of a drainpipe to gain access.
- Banksy

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things that you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.
~Mark Twain

It's astonishing how much trouble one can get oneself into, if one works at it. And astonishing how much trouble one can get oneself out of, if one simply assumes that everything will, somehow or other, work out for the best.
- Destruction, in SANDMAN #72, part three of "The Wake"

97] Do you think your personality is different externally and internally?
Nah, I'm pretty much the same all around.

98] What's your goal now?
Continue learning.

99] What do you have to say to yourself?
Try new things, damnit!

100] Lastly, what do you have to say to everyone?
STAY AWESOME.

My mom dropped off her old couch here today. Finally drug it in. Thankfully, it's light enough that I might be able to get it upstairs! That'd be nice. It's a hellavulot lighter than the damn stove I katamari'd up the stairs. D:

Holy cow, that meme is long! But good answers. :D Question, though:

1) What is elfquest?
2) What do you ink with?

1. Elfquest is this amazing fantasy comic by Wendy and Richard Pini. It was completely self published in the 70s/80s and is pretty much fantastic. The art is a bit of an acquired taste for some folks, but the story is amazing. http://www.elfquest.com has all (I think) of the original quest (the original story) up on the website for free now.

2. Sakura Microns in a variety of sizes. I used to ink with just one size and then thicken lines, but I discovered it was just much easier to use different sizes eventually. XD

i didn't know you still inked with pen, i thought you were all digital inking now

Nope. I absolutely suck with digital inking. I've only done it a handful of times.

I'm using my own inks recently. I used to run my inks through Streamline to make 'em bold and crisp. But after Is tarted putting more work into learning to ink properly, it's been all my own.
