I have a close friend (Valentine Mouse in the fandom) who is entering treatment at the Eating Disorder Center of Denver this week. This is very difficult for her and she is visibly scared, and is being pressured into treatment by her doctors. In addition to the psychological turmoil she is facing, most of the money she has diligently saved for a fursuit must now go towards the cost of treatment, which I can tell was a blow to her.

BECAUSE GETTING HELP FOR AN EATING DISORDER ISN'T MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE MONEY YOU SAVED UP FOR A FUCKING FURSUIT.

For fuck's sake, furries.

She should probably wait to get one anyhow because, by the time she gets out of there, she's gonna be fat anyhow she'll have put on weight*.

In other news, I really loathe this mantra: I know furs take care of furs and I can't think of anyone who more deserves a little help right now!

I'm on the fence with this one, personally. I can understand the no-responsibility-but-give-me-something part would anger people, but it's a nice thing to cheer her up with after going through this ordeal.

This is the biggest problem with furries. It makes my stomach churn every time I see an add on a forum or a talk in a chat about someone looking for "other furs" to move in to some "furry den" where everything will be scritchy murry purry fun.

Then they get a slap to the face when bills come due and some fucker has blown all his rent money on horse dildos. Oh noes, we have to pay for a house, car insurance, and gas? We're not living in mommy's basement anymore and we're expected to use our income to survive? THE WORLD IS SO UNFAIR!!

On the other hand, if she does go for a fursuit, it'll inevitably be cheaper since they won't have to use as much fabric.
