It is, as I've said, hot as balls. It's 75F today. Was 80F or so over the day. We spent it out of the house and in stores, taking advantage of air conditioning because the central air here needs to be fixed. We have three fans upstairs, and one downstairs for the rats (since it's a bit cooler down there, I moved all the beasties so they don't, y'know, die).

I need to buy some citronella things for the balcony. The mosquitos are starting to come in the house (the screen on the balcony door needs replaced) and they're annoying.

Work is going well. I'm getting used to things there. Slowly but surely.

We house-sat at Rob's last night. That was nice. TJ almost hit a deer on the way home after taking me to work, apparently. D: She didn't however, and all was well.

I'm thinking about taking a nap, therefore fucking up my sleep schedule. But I've only gotten three hours of sleep today, so I'm going to crash out eventually.

I scored some $1.50 clearance Prismacolor markers from Pat Catan's today. A few colors I've been needing. Greys and Blues, thankfully. They raised the regular prices of Prisma markers to $2.87. Almost a dollar up from when I bought them a year ago, but ah well. They haven't topped $3 yet, so I'm happy. We also got a small soldering rod, so I can work on [SEEKRIT PROJECT]. That should be fun.

We also got a wading pool from the Easter Seals sale. It's, like, 8'x18". Only a foot and a half deep, but it'll be nice to fill up and sit in to cool off. And we can put a few inches of water in it and let the rats get wet. I'm sure they'll hate it. They all hate water.

I downloaded new music to listen to. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Sia, Fleet Foxes, Jem, The Beatles, Dire Straits and Aqua. Yeeey.

I got four pairs of cargo khakis from Walmart the other night for $1 each. This was pretty much awesome because they fit really nice (they're guy pants, too!) and, well, they were only $1. Yaaay clearance. :D :D

I LIVE IN THE MOST CULTURALLY AND ARTISTICALLY STUNTED CITY IN THE WORLD.

WHAT WHAT WHAT.

Also, check out THESE GEMS:

What's a light source?
Weeaboo! Weeaboo!
This is an absolute clusterfuck of fail.

Now, here's where I'm going to put in a disclaimer. I support fledgling artists. Seriously. Everyone starts somewhere. But this is not the sort of thing you have in a more 'upscale' art show. These are the things you show in HIGH SCHOOL ART SHOWS. With similar skill and talent.

To prove I'm not a huge bitch, here's some cool/good/neat pieces:

j-vanhoose-fury-owl
j-vanhoose-sleepingkittens
bcohen-naplesbeforehurricane
jbilicki-redstockings
j-omalley-afternoonappt

And then there's things I don't 'get'.

valerio-etchasketch - Great. You can write with an Etch-a-Sketch. Big deal?
vincentvalerio-legoblocks - Giant Lego blocks are cool but..uh...what?

And don't even get me started on abstract art. I don't understand what's so 'deep' and passionaite' about throwing some paint on a canvas in a vaugely artistic manner. I never have and I don't think I ever will.

Also, people from this area need to learn basic graphic design and how to make webpages:

Please, people. It's NOT difficult. I swear.

And then, well, there's things like this:

Oh, oh, oh, this incited my rage:

http://youngstownart.blogspot.com/2008/03/yo-daddys-cartoons.html

Followed by:

There is also a CD playing of songs from the cartoons on the intercom and cartoons being show in the gallery and on the large screen in the coat room. Probably one of the few times you can bring small children to the museum and have them occupied. Hmmm. On second thought, maybe you don't want the young impressionable minds of your children absorbing these images?!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.....FACEPALM.

I could count the reasons I'm wary and a little put off by the local art community but I would run out of counting utensils. Can you guess why?

  • 09:15 I'm never going to be able to get anything done in this heat. Even three fans aren't helping. #
