Holy shit. That post on
brps_adult that I was bitching about? About the 'intersex' versus 'hermaphrodites'? It has 207 COMMENTS. You bet your ass I was back in there to see what the hell blew up.
This vodkashakes chick went absolutely balls to the wall crazy, apparently. Going apeshit in your comments is not going to endear me to your side of the argument. In fact, I am likely going to think less of the subject matter because of it.
MORE. CIS. BULLSHIT. IF I COULD LAUNCH THIS TERM (and many others) INTO ORBIT AND HOPEFULLY ON ITS WAY TO CRASH INTO THE SUN, BELIEVE ME, I WOULD.
PRIVILEGE. Listen, I 'get' the whole 'privilege' thing, but I also think a good portion of it is bullshit, and that's from personal experience. Throwing these terms around to think you're putting someone else in their 'place' is just as much under the 'privilege' umbrella.
You want to work a few more grown-up swear words in there, princess? You want to pull 'triggers' from nothing? The word 'vodka' could be triggering to someone who was/is/related to an alcoholic. The term 'flaming' could be offensive to gays. The words 'piss splatter' could be triggering to someone who had a bad watersports incident.
When I think of 'triggers', I think of war veterans. I'm aware certain words/images/whatever can be triggering for people but, here's the thing, IT'S NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY TO CENSOR MYSELF FOR STRANGERS. I should not (and do not) have to tiptoe around things because there might be SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE out there who may be 'triggered' by it. Just like I should not have to do the same for something someone might find offensive.
I may as well be mute. WE ALL MAY AS WELL BE MUTE. WOULD THAT SOLVE ANYTHING?
Y'know, maybe if there was some cosmic force that informed the specific group of people that I was using a term for them in a deragatory manner, maybe I'd be nicer with my language. There isn't, however, so I am not 'steamrolling' over anyone. No one else is going to hear these ~bad words~ except the people I'm speaking them to. If it's on the internet, then, yeah, it may be out there for everyone to potentially find, but I'm still not sweating it because it doesn't affect me in real life.
Oh, and then princess comes back in with another STELLAR and useful comment on the subject. Also, PRIVILLEGE, AGAIN.
DOUCHES ARE BAD FOR WOMEN (I know she typed otherwise, but I'm sure this is what she was trying to convey) SO THEY'RE MYSOGNISTIC.
Did I seriously just read that?
Really?
O...kay.
The term 'assclown' is triggering for those with a fear of clowns.
The more I keep reading, the more hilarious and crazy she gets. I'm seriously picturing the Jesus lady from Trading Spouses in my head, except instead of God and the Devil, she's spotuting Privilege and Cis.

idiotsjerksdicksmeanie-faces... she's just making herself look like the raging feminazi character that is actually holding back education on this shit. seriously. >:\and about triggers? i hate when people mock them (or worse, intentionally use them on a person who's told them not to, just to "troll"), because they're a serious and very real thing. ~BUT~ that doesn't mean you should police every single word of your own language. on certain (for example) women's interests forums, i totally understand watching it.
but in normal, non-"safe-place" situations, you absolutely cannot expect people to consider EVERY DAMNED WORD. i mean my god.

Date: 2011-05-01 06:09 am (UTC)No.. wait.. they're trans. *facepalm* For whatever reason there's like this HUGE majority of trans folks that get as up in arms about pronouns not relating to them as white people do about racial steriotypes that don't apply to white people.
I just.
Humanity.
Stop it.
No wonder aliens haven't visited us. Our whole fucking species is fucking insane.
