I HAVEN'T SOAPBOX'D IN AWHILE.

I got an e-mail in my Kent inbox today from a professor at the Trumbull campus. I'm unsure why I've been getting things from this specific professor, but it probably has to do with the fact that I draw and shit. I was on his list for ICON (the art/writing zine at Trumbull) last semester, despite not going to that campus anymore. So I get this e-mail about a course on 'Japanese Culture' in the Fall.

If you’re looking for a different, very interesting course for next Fall, consider a course on Japanese culture. We’ll watch and discuss several films, including recent comedies such as Train Man (see picture below). We’ll also discuss Japanese animation & "manga" comics; haiku poems and fiction; some famous artists; as well as Japanese concepts of love, beauty, and honor. The class will include a party with authentic Japanese food.

If you haven't taken the prerequisite course (English 21011; College Writing II), email me for permission to register for this course on Japan.

For non-English majors: this course can count as an elective.
For English majors: this course applies to the "Genre, Culture, and Theory" requirement; or counts as an elective.

See, I saw the subject title and though 'Oh, that'd be neat. I wonder if they'll talk about more than...oh.' Instead, no. It's a weaboo course about ~animu and manga~, which is kind of insulting because that's not all 'Japanese culture' is and if you sincerely think that, I'm sorry and you're a retard.

The e-mail also included photos of: girls in kimonos, a manga cover for "Nura: Rise of the Yokai Clan" and either cosplay or EGL, it's hard to tell because I don't watch anime anymore.

Courses I teach most often at Kent State’s Trumbull campus are African American literature, Great Books, Creative Writing, and a variety of composition courses. In addition to my teaching and research, I serve as the faculty advisor to our campus’s literature and art magazine, ICON, which we produce each semester. I have spent three years teaching as a visiting professor at two Japanese universities, an extremely rewarding experience. Some of my interests are photography, landscaping, playing basketball, travel, and writing.

LIVED IN JAPAN FOR THREE YEARS. IN JAPANESE CULTURE. FOR FUCK'S SAKE, YOU HAVE ACTUAL REAL-LIFE EXPERIENCE. WHY ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT WEABOO BULLSHIT.

If this was online, I would take it just to be a royal pain in the ass. If I was still in Warren, I'd take it just to be a pain in the ass. Unfortunately, all I can do is glare at it from afar.
