Oh, that thing passed, did it?
Mar. 22nd, 2010 12:21 pmEveryone will have to have health insurance or pay a fine, a requirement known as the individual mandate. The government intends to cap premiums for people who make below a certain income. For people who buy insurance on the exchanges, a family of four making $88,000 would have a cap of 9.5 percent of their income. Lower incomes would have lower caps. The fine for not having insurance would be a minimum of $695 per person per year, with exemptions for financial hardship and other special cases.
This is fucking bullshit.
Medicaid, a joint federal-state program for the poor, will cover all of the poor, instead of just a few groups the way it currently does. Right now, to qualify for Medicaid, a person has to be poor and also disabled, elderly, pregnant or a child. Under the new plan, all poor adults would qualify.
But I like the sound of this.
Don't do me wrong, Obama. I like you, I really do, but:
1. I'm not going to BUY insurance. Even if it is 'discounted'. I am not the sort of person who's a fan of doctors to begin with, so I'm not going to pay insurance for something I may rarely, if ever, use.
2. Considering I pay taxes anyhow, AND I fall under the poverty line, I'm glad I'll FINALLY be eligible for Medicaid. Good lord, it's about fucking time.
I still think hiking up our taxes and doing it Canada's way would be easier in the long run. It's not like people are going to boycott the things the NEED to live because there's a higher tax on it. Hell, they might cut back on buying retarded things like HD TV's and then complaining because they're broke.
I guess I'm just a little jaded.

Date: 2010-03-25 05:40 pm (UTC)yea, even TARGET insurance, which everyone assured me was pretty cheap is more than i can afford when i have to buy my own food and gasoline and upkeep my car and pay my bills.
i don't want to have to buy something i don't want. (i can tell myself the same thing a doctor can when i have the flu.) I'd just like something to be there if something horrible happens. Because you never think something bad will happen to you till it does, you know? /shrug.
i hope the took it out. that woudld be balls to leave it in.

Date: 2010-03-25 05:44 pm (UTC)The last time I even broke down and went to the doctor was when I had that bad toothache and there was absolutely no other choice. I'd already suffered with it for three days before I grudging went, too!
